2pi Patent Consulting was founded in 2016 by Richard and Joachim Pistorius. Both trained as electrical engineers in Saarbrücken, then built their careers on different sides of the patent world: Richard in European patent practice, Joachim in semiconductor research and then patent prosecution in the U.S. and, since 2024, before the EPO.

Together they cover the European Patent Office and the United States Patent and Trademark Office from a single firm, so our clients get one consistent strategy for both markets, in English, German or French.

Richard Joachim
1993
Richard & Joachim Both graduate in electrical engineering at the Universität des Saarlandes, Saarbrücken.
1996
Joachim Starts in R&D at major EDA and semiconductor companies.
1999
Richard Starts as a patent engineer at a renowned IP firm in Munich.
2003
Richard Founds his own engineering office providing patent services.
2008
Richard Admitted as European Patent Attorney before the EPO.
2012
Joachim Moves into patents as a U.S. Patent Agent at Altera Corporation.
2016
Richard & Joachim Together they found 2pi Patent Consulting GbR.
2024
Joachim Admitted as European Patent Attorney before the EPO.
